Start educating people about party policies

Letters

A NEW government is important for Papua New Guinea after next year’s general elections.
All registered political parties and party leaders should start educating voters about their policies in preparation for next year.
It is important to know about parties now rather than later on.
The country is over 40-years-old but we have seen little progress in development due to corruption and mismanagement.
The Government should consider directly allocating funds to provinces and districts to empower them.
Morobe should be granted economic and financial autonomy by 2023 so that goods and services tax collected in the province is retained and shared among our districts instead of going to the Internal Revenue Commission before redistribution.
The same could be done for benefits from government projects such as mining, oil and gas projects. Benefits should be paid direct to the province, districts and local level governments instead of paying them into Treasury and Finance departments in Waigani before redistribution.
The people of Bulolo and other nine districts have been crying out for road maintenance, especially Bulolo-Wau and Menyamya-Aseki roads for the last 20 years but their cries have fallen on deaf ears.
Bulolo hosts two large mining projects, Hidden Valley and Wafi-Golpu.
The district hosts Zenag Chicken, PNG Forest Products, alluvial gold mining, coffee, cocoa and vanilla farmers.
For those, we deserve some respect.
The country is in need of God-fearing leaders with good visions to move us forward.
Our leaders need to put their political differences aside and unite.
We should start appointing right people for jobs instead of those that serve interests.
This nation’s future leaders should be true servants of the people. The last five years were wasted.
The Government and the Opposition were busy attacking each other without concentration on good governance and policies.
This nation cannot continue to make stupid mistakes.
On the other hand, millions of Covid-19 funds were distributed to provinces and districts.
Can those funds be acquitted so people know what they were spent on?
Let us stand together in next year’s national elections and change this country by weeding out corrupt leaders and electing God-fearing leaders who can put our country and people first.

Former Bulolo MP
