Statement rejected

Letters

I DISAPPROVE of Education Minister Joseph Yopyyopy’s directives to resume classes on May 4.
This is joke and a stressful exercise for teachers and students nationwide.
There are no personal protective equipment (PPE) for the students and teachers to contain the spread of the Covid-19.
With new reported cases, the risk of spreading is very high if someone is infected.
Students and teachers should be provided with face masks and hand sanitisers in the classrooms, toilets and office buildings.
Put the state of emergency (SOE) funds to good use now before the resumption.
Social distancing is not guaranteed as there are almost 100 students per class in almost all government institutions.
Most teachers around the country had their pay slashed by the Department of Education and some have been put off pay during the lockdown period.
Is our medical insurance covered amidst the pandemic?
As you mentioned, eight lessons in a day is unbelievable.
As a teacher, the quality of the lesson within a 30 or 40 minutes is not guaranteed.
There are restrictions on public motor vehicles (PMV) as the SOE is still effective until June.
Consider the teachers and students travelling to school by bus when the number of passengers are restricted.
This will definitely affect the teaching and learning process if they are late.
While I appreciate the commitment, hard work and efforts of the government to monitor and control the spread of the virus, consider the points mentioned or cancel the whole academic year.
Regardless of no death recorded yet, prevention is better than cure.
It is better to be safe than sorry as people are dying around the world.
To my fellow colleagues, our lives are important.
Refrain from attending classes.
We are not naturally resistant to the virus as speculated on social media.
More importantly, we are not tools and puppets where our rights will be suppressed.

Concerned teacher,
Base level for life (BL4L)
