PAPUA New Guinea’s top track male athlete and Pacific Games 400m gold medallist Nelson Stone will travel to Sydney, Australia, after Christmas to train and compete in preparation for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Olympics would be held from July 27 to Aug 12 next year.
Nelson said his focus in Sydney was the 400m track and he would concentrate on recording good times to qualify for the London Olympics.
The Digicel brand ambassador said he would be looking at competing in the 400m, 200m and 100m track events during the Australian domestic season as a warm-up to the Olympics.
“It is great for me to train in Sydney where there are proper facilities.
“The Australians also have some of the best sprinters in the world so it will be helpful for me to experience the competition to boost me in running with the best in the world.
“It is good motivation and good competition,” Stone said.
He is currently training twice a day, six days a week at the John Guise Stadium and would be travelling back and forth from Sydney to train for around three months.
