Stop collecting income tax

Letters

THE current high cost of living will lead to more law and order issues and other related problems throughout the country as families struggle every day to survive, especially in cities and towns.
The price of store goods such as rice, canned fish, sugar, cooking oil, biscuits, coffee and tea have gone up.
Electricity and water bills, accommodation, school fees have increased while salaries and wages remain low and goods and services tax have risen to about 17 per cent.
Most workers in the public and private sectors are living on borrowed money every day.
The Government should consider doing away with income tax so employees can take home more money to spend on goods and services.
How can the Government continue to collect income tax from public and private sector employees and retain goods and services tax?
It is a double tax collection.
The next government after this year’s general election should address this matter and decide whether to do away with income tax or goods and services tax.
Do not keep both.
