Stop confusing landowners

Letters

I AM concerned about the warden hearing recently conducted at Kido village by Mayur Resources and Mineral Resources Authority officers.
It was obvious that Mayur Resources did not conduct proper awareness in the communities for the renewal of the exploration licence and the absence of the other impacted villages from the forum proves that. The announcement to renew the exploration licence brought confusion.
Elders from Kido and Rearea communities knew nothing about the licence.
Representatives of the villages asked questions but did not get the answers they wanted.
Mayur Resources should:

  •  INFORM the landowner’s about the licence, its content, functions and purpose;
  •  EXPLAIN why there was not enough awareness and information about the licence; and,
  •  EXPLAIN why the communities were not informed about such important development issues that will affect their lives.
At the forum, a Mayur Resources representative said a limestone project would start early next year.
If that is the case, it raises further questions:
  •  WERE there any consultations and awareness to inform the people about the project?
  •  WHEN and where did the Government, provincial government, Hiri local level government and landowners sign the agreement?
  •  CAN Mayur Resources produce all these documents to verify that the project is genuine?
There appears to be too many questions about the limestone project and the exploration licences.
    Are there some hidden agendas?
Project developers have a responsibility to properly inform the people about projects that will affect their lives so that they will make informed decisions.

  • Stop them.! This is Rearea and Kido villages their heritage where the lime stone project is proposed.
I call for a stop into the project.
Impacted villages must organize and set up all spin off benefits before opening doors for the project to head. If not, stop!
