Stop homebrew trade in Numbo

Letters

I AM appealing to those involved in brewing and selling homebrew in Numbo local level government, Yangoru-Saussia, to stop and surrender their gas bottles to the police or the community leaders.
Homebrew is causing too many troubles, damage of properties and disturbing peace in the communities of Musuhagen, Harengen, Walemba, Sasenumbohu, Kinenumbohu and Numbohu.
Many times we called the police for help, but they tell us that they have no fuel.
Homebrew trade has been going on for some time now.
Men in the six mentioned communities are producing and selling it.
Men consume homebrew, harass women and children, damage properties and hurt people.
Two lives have already been lost as a result. My son is one of their regular customer.
He consumes homebrew and then argues with me.
We, the family, are fed up of this attitude.
I am bringing this issue to the attention of the East Sepik government and local level government managers that we have not been paid our allowances for seven months.
Despite that, the women are still vocal in addressing issues in the communities.
Only some are paid while the rest are not.
I raise this concern many times but I haven’t received good responses from them.
We are the ones who stand up against illegal activities in the community and the authorities should help and not ignore us.
