Arrest hold up suspects

Letters

I RAISE this concern as the husband of Bainam Gela, the basic education inspector who was recently held up at Goglme Village in Kundiawa-Gembogl, Chimbu, by violent local youths.
The current inspector of Niglkande and Mitnande local level governments was held up and thrown out of her work vehicle with her driver.
My wife is defenseless, vulnerable and yet trying to fulfil her duty and I can’t sit and wait as if everything is okay.
I expect police to step in and make arrests immediately.
The aggression, and foul language used including physically ejecting the driver out of the vehicle is criminal in nature.
The vehicle donated by the local MP is still held by the people at Goglme village.
What concerns me most as the husband is that the communities in the two mentioned LLGs have seen this officer (my wife) walking and traveling on PMV for three years to serve them.
The local MP using his wisdom and leadership has allocated the vehicle to assist the inspection team serve his people of Kundiawa-Gembogl.
There is a big sticker by the door that reads ‘Education Inspections’.
The two serving inspectors have worked so hard and deserve the vehicle to support them.
It is unacceptable and irritating to see the authorities taking almost a week to address the issue.
The community has leaders who should negotiate and bring things under control.
I demand for the district administrator to report the matter to police to bring those responsible to face the law.
The issue should be addressed appropriately if the inspector is to continue serving the people.
Imagine if that happened in Kangre or elsewhere.
She will be in more trouble.
Other alternate dispute resolution strategies the education division or the district administration may have on the issue including a possible peace arrangement …

… will not be accepted as the matter is a crime and has to be dealt with by the law.
I want police to step in and make arrests.
This problem should be address immediately and ironed out.

  • Holdup in the Mitnande and Niglkande LLG is first of it’s kind as I have never heard of it. They people have always been peace loving. Am sure the must be other underlying issues to that effect…however holding up person by force using any means isnt the right approach…it is complying to hear if such incident. I hope it will be resolved amicably for the good name of the 2 LLG constituents.

  • David Gela the beloved husband, sorry to hear this. Some years back my wife was held up in Madang outside the local bank where she worked, it upsets the whole family.
