Stop political cronyism

Letters

WHEN I read David Lepi’s letter ‘Signs of corruption looming in Govt’ (The National, Oct 20) that “politicians… have been abusing their patronage power to appoint cronies to directorship on the boards of state-owned enterprises, departments and statutory organisations”, I felt I was familiar with that phenomenon in post-coup Fiji.
The coup that claimed it was to clean up corruption and bad governance has produced a government with an unprecedented level of corruption in Fiji’s history.
Lepi further stated that “Cronyism is the first move in setting up the pieces on the board of grand corruption”.
It’s hard not to agree with that.
This kind of corruption damages democratic good governance and every effort should be made to eradicate it.
