PUBLIC servants working in the rural areas of Morobe have been told to concentrate on their

duties and not spend their time travelling to Lae city during working hours.

Morobe Governor Kelly Naru said some public servants spent

too much time, money and resources on trips to the provincial capital and staying there for days.

He said it was unproductive and affected Government service delivery to the people.

Naru made the comment last Saturday at the Umi-Atzera local level government chamber, in Markham district, where the first provincial executive council meeting for the year was held.

He told senior public servants including acting provincial administrator Geoving Bilong to work closely with the political leaders and ensure that Government services were delivered to the people.

“Get your priorities right and start serving the people.

“More importantly do not serve yourself, your families, your cronies and your friends, but serve the people,” he said.

“Many times I see ambulances, police vehicles, district vehicles and public servants such as teachers in Lae and in front of the Tutumang (Morobe provincial government).

“You are not supposed to be in Lae during working hours.

“You are supposed to be in the districts.

“During pay days, you leave your jobs to go to Lae in the middle of the week.

“This is wrong.

“Your only private times are over the weekends where you can go to the bank or do your shopping,” Bilong said.
