STRANDED Papua New Guinean citizen Dr Moses Dame finally arrived in the country from London via Singapore and is in 14-day quarantine in a Port Moresby hotel.
Dr Dame arrived on Tuesday and said he was in self-isolation at the Hideaway Hotel.
“I was in London for three weeks after my flight to Brisbane was cancelled,” he said.
Dr Dame said that he had been waiting for Singapore authorities to approve his travel and was kept there for 12 hours before boarding an Air Niguni flight to PNG.
“My reason for staying three weeks in London was to give at least 10 working days to the authorities in Singapore to grant me permission to transit through there because they are still in lockdown,” he said.
Dr Dame said secretary for the PNG High Commission in London Judith Silau took good care of him in the UK.
“I feel at home, I’m healthy and well.”
Dr Dame graduated from Hefei Medical University, China, as a doctor (MBBS) in July and was posted to Ghana to complete his internship.
The Covid-19 outbreak led to Ghana barring all travel and the self-sponsored student was stranded there. Some fundraising enabled him to purchase his ticket to London from Ghana late last month.
“We had raised enough funds and my parents were able to chip in some money where I fell short,” Dr Dame said.
He appreciated and acknowledged the help of some kind-hearted people and groups.
“On behalf of my family, I would like to thank everyone that had responded well in donations, cash and kind,” he said.
“God bless their homes and families and we love you and will remember you as long as we live.”
