Official warns of flooding in Morobe as rain continues to fall

HEAVY rain in Morobe is threatening to flood roads to rural districts, says provincial works manager Samson Apai.
Apai said roads from 9-Mile in Lae into the Wau-Bulolo local level government were washed out in some areas.
He said areas like Kumalu needed immediate attention and the provincial Works division was trying to address it.
“We know we need to respond quickly before the condition worsens and the road is closed off completely, stopping service from reaching the people,” he said.
Apai said it would cost about K3mil to maintain those sections of the road.
He urged road users to exercise precaution when travelling.
Apai said roads projects in the province were progressing as scheduled.
