Street selling in Lae

Letters

STREET sales in Lae are back to normal and our law-enforcement agencies, in particular police, are unable to do anything more to contain the situation.
This is especially at the main market.
It is a shared responsibility to look after our city to ensure it is safe and secure, however, this is not the case.
Good-minded and law-abiding citizens are outnumbered by these unemployed people.
They are everywhere.
Our policing team seem to ignore most hotspot areas. Instead of joining forces to remove and clean those hot areas, they look for isolated areas, targeting vulnerable people conducting clean businesses.
One good example, was around 12pm on Wednesday (April 11), where a group of policemen recklessly drove and stopped their car in front of Telikom yard opposite the new Westpac bank at Mangola Street.
They forcefully ordered two women to remove their containers of cooked food or face the consequences.
It might not be the right place for these two women to sell their food, however, they were targeting the workforce and looking forward to making good sales at lunch time.
They prepared well and were and aiming to make good
returns.
By seeing their appearances, these two women were village women.
In my view, these unprofessional men in blue should show some professionalism.
Talk to them and advise them: This is not the right place to conduct your business, and it’s the last time for you to come here.
Instead, they grabbed their food containers, ordered them to jump into the car and drove away.
