SOUTHERN Strikers were given a boost of K20,000 by Lae-based air conditioning company PNG Cool Air.
Southern Strikers team manager Gordon Manub said the sponsorship would help the Strikers in their preparations for the next National Soccer League (NSL) season.
Manub said some of the money would be utilised for the Schools Football Association and the Strikers, which provides a pathway to the NSL.
“For PNG Cool Air to come on board and support us is tremendous,” Manub said.
“It shows that they believe in what the Southern Strikers are doing in developing young footballers from the schools right up to the NSL level.
PNG Cool Air Operations manager Alan Swan said the company decided to support the Strikers after seeing their development programme which impressed them.
“We saw what they were doing and those are the sort of programmes we want to support,” Swan said.
“We saw the passion of the young footballers and we heard about their aspirations, and we’re excited to be here.
“We want to support them in a long term.
“But we’ll have to assess how they go and if all goes well, we’ll definitely want to support them going into the future.”
The Strikers finished the NSL season on fifth spot. Their greatest achievement this year was holding the NSL champions Toti City FC to a 1-1 draw in round 12.
