Strong leadership quality needed

Letters

FROM one son of Kagua Erave Electorate of the South Highlands to another Hela brother; Prime Minister James Marape, I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your election to the highest political post in our country.
The numbers (101) cleared showed you have a following from some senior Members of Parliament, testimony to your credible leadership.
The lead up to the day you were elected was full of events that will surely go down in the history of our short political front.
Prime Minister, our country needs strong leadership to bring back our confidence to our people; take back what belongs rightfully to Papua New Guineans and to give our people meaningful participation in the development of our country and our way of life.
We need to add a little quality to the way we live, operate and engage in everyday business of living.
We need to empower our future generation by showing the narrow path, which has pitfalls of all sorts, but we have to do it together and with you being our leader and showing us the way for a conducive environment , the rest of us should take pride and take ownership of our endeavors to lead quality lives.
Prime Minister, I am quite sure you have a room full of experts in each of our government department to lecture and advise you on these concerns; concerns many of our educated citizens express every other day over a buai (betel nut), or a beer or maybe just to make conversation after a church service by a members a local congregation or parish.
The way forward is in agriculture is to revive the faltering coffee industry, cocoa and copra industries; empower our people to manage their land with the involvement of Government agencies.
The oil palm industry is a practical example of success, albeit clearing of our large land parcels which are home to flora and fauna.
Take back our forest industry and stop the export of logs to foreign shores, stop the jobs leaving our shores. We can add value by downstream processing, thereby making jobs available for our people, skilled and or semi-skilled to earn a decent leaving.
Empower our government departments to investigate why certain logging companies file tax return with losses yet continue to operate all these years.
Legislate to ensure any export item leaving our shores is a finished product that earns this country abundant foreign reserve to boost our economy.
Mr Prime Minister, it would be in the best interest of our country to review all MoUs and MoAs in the extractive industry.
Corporate bullies are at work in this country and our people and country is missing out big time.
The little people don’t understand the rationale behind corporate giants offering a meagre 2 per cent equity to the provincial government and the landowners, who are the real resource owners are supposed to piggy back on that lousy cut.
Eight (8) million Papua New Guineans are now watching your moves, hoping that you can prove your leadership with the support from your ministers in the remaining years of this term.
Once again congratulations Hamene!
