COOPERATION is the only correct choice for China and the US and is the only path to a better future, according to Chinese Ambassador Xue Bing, pictured.
Bing made the comment this week following the release of a white paper on China’s position on the economic and trade consultations between the two nations.
The document summarises and introduces the history of China-US trade friction, and the general situation of the bilateral trade talks.
It also explained China’s principles and position on the various issues involved.
“As to where the China-US economic and trade consultations are heading, China is looking forward, not backward,” Bing said.
“Striking a mutually beneficial and win-win agreement serves the interests of China and the US and meets the expectations of the world. China’s position is very clear, we certainly don’t want to see a trade war occur.
“However, if it really comes, we won’t be afraid, and will fight it if necessary.
“Our attitude on this has never changed.
“We hold consultations (with partners) with equal footing, based on mutual respect and equality.
“China is a large country, PNG is small comparatively speaking, but we treat each other equally.”
The trade volume between China and Papua New Guinea is US$3.61 billion (K12.2bil) as at last year.
Approximately 25,000 people of Chinese origin are living in the country.
