SEVERAL houses in Erima settlement, in Port Moresby, have been destroyed by strong winds.

Seven semi-permanent houses belonging to people living at the back of the Funeral Home, close to the end of Jackson’s Airport had roofs blown off and one of them was completely destroyed.

Rose Senny, from Ialibu,  Southern Highlands, and married to a Koriari man from Central, was one of the victims.

Senny said they were cooking at 5pm last Thursday when they saw thick clouds coming their way.

“We were surprised to experience the strong winds combined with lightning strikes. The people were frightened and confused, ran all over the place,” she said.

She said some people had to run to escape flying roofing iron that  was blown about by strong gusts.
