Struggling to get into uni

Letters

THE 2018 academic year is slowly winding down and selections for tertiary studies will soon begin on Dec 13 for next year’s 2019 academic year.
It have been applying to study at Divine Word University and other tertiary institutions and hoping to get in as a non-school leaver.
While I have been working as a teaching assistant in International Education Agency schools for seven years, after finishing grade 12 in 2005, I have applied several times to universities and colleges as a non-school leaver seeking further studies but so far have not been successful.
PNG has a rapidly growing population with young people struggling and for them little has changed, believe me.
If we are struggling today then it will not be easier tomorrow.
Life isn’t the same for us all and it is not fair.
Unless you have been in my shoes you cannot have empathy and will therefore not understand my situation and why I need to study for a better qualification.
Everyone should be given the opportunity, whether you are freshly out of school or already in the workforce.
I am not being biased here, but with the recent introduction of online selection to universities and colleges for grade 12 students, the Education Department should look to see if the system is being manipulated, and if it is then clean it up.
