SCOUTING and its activities are fun, demand creative skills and enriches human ability, Scouts special projects commissioner Richard Budu says.

Budu said scouting skills often extended human ability to withstand odd situations or seek alternatives.

“Scouting activities build a person mentally, morally, socially and spiritually to respect one’s self, others and the environment,” he said.

Budu witnessed 89 Scout patrol leaders from 12 primary schools in Lae being awarded certificates last weekend.

The schools were Haikost, Igam, Taraka, First Salvation Army, Second Salvation Army, Milfordhaven, Gabmazung, Bowali, All Saints-Bumbu, First Kamkumung, Kwila and St Martin’s.

Scouts completed three days of basic training which included first-aid, dressing pads, triangular bandages and slings for arms and legs, reading trekking signs, Scout graft for knots and lashes, construction of beds using different knots and ended with a camp fire.
