STUDENT teachers in an institution in Port Moresby were told to be proud of their profession.
Celebrating international Teachers Day last Friday, more than 200 student teachers and 30 lecturers from the PNG Education Institute were told to take pride in their profession as they were educating people who would lead the nation one day.
Hilda David, the legal adviser for the Teaching Service Commission, said the day was celebrated all over the world each year on Oct 5 to pay tribute to teachers for their contribution towards education.
“Teachers are vessels through which knowledge have been taught to the educated population and the elites of this nation,” she said.
“Some of the founding fathers and great figures in the history of this young and beautiful nation are teachers by profession.”
David said teaching was a noble and invaluable profession.
She challenged every teacher to work according to good ethics, honesty, dedication, commitment and patriotism.
She challenged teachers to perform to the best of their ability using whatever resources available to them.
