UNIVERSITY of Papua New Guinea Manus students presented K40,000 from funds raised on provincial day to help buy medical equipment for the Lorengau General Hospital.
Manus Students’ Association (MSA) chairman Dale Sapalonah said the hospital badly needed medical equipment and the money raised would help a lot in their contribution towards the purchase of the needed equipment.
Sapalonah said the money was given to Lorengau Hospital Fund Drive Association to add onto other funds they raised.
“We plan to continue raising funds and helping,” he said.
Sapalonah said the association had encouraged others to raise funds and help the province’s primary schools, library, health office and others in need. Fundraising chairman George Manuhu said Manus residents within Papua New Guinea and overseas raised K2090 for the hospital.
Manuhu said equipment already purchased for the Lorengau hospital were an ultrasound system with accessories, two phototherapy lights, four diagnostic sets, 10 resuscitation silicon for infants, two Philips page writer, TC70 ECG machine with accessories and ECG power.
“We are promoting self-reliance and unity to get what our province need s rather than waiting for government funds and handouts,” he said.
He said the money was raised only to purchase needed medical equipment and not for any medical drugs or medicine.
