THE Kabwum District Development Authority has warned that it will not financially support university students involved in the boycott of classes if it resulted in the termination of the semester.
A DDA meeting at Dengob village on Sunday resolved to withdraw funding assistance to students at Unitech and University of PNG if their protest led to the termination of the semester.
MP Bob Dadae said the district authorities and parents were concerned about the disruption to classes as they had paid fees for students to attend classes.
“The DDA respects the democratic right to express views on national interest but your studies are your future.
“The issues concerning Prime Minister Peter O’Neill are before the courts,” he said.
Dadae said there was nothing in the Constitution that required the PM to step down or resign in response to a public protest.
“Although I am a PNC Party member, I am not supporting O’Neill, Cabinet or the students in the matter. I am interested in the stability of the country and ensure that students return to classes,” he said.
Morobe students had called on the ten MPs to withdraw their support for O’Neill and the PNC.
“The Kabwum electorate mandated me and the decision to shift party or alliance will be determined by Kabwum people,” Dadae said.
“Personally, I will submit my resignation to the PNC Party if evidence against O’Neill is serious. But if it is trivial, then I need an appropriate reason to shift alliance and allegiance.”
