EAST Sepik provincial education adviser Pius Munkaje says around 200 teachers from elementary, primary, secondary and TVET institutions were not paid last week.
Munkaje said he was aware that some teachers had stayed away from classes because they had not been paid.
“These teachers are humans so if they react to such situations, we cannot do much but try our best to fix this problem,” he said.
Munkaje said some teachers were not paid because other teachers were occupying their positions.
He said the education division must update its master position register.
“If we update the register and all positions in the Alesco system, then we will prevent the automatic suspension of pay.
“Classes were progressing normally in most schools in the urban and rural areas,” Munkaje said.
