HUNDREDS of students armed with gloves and garbage bags took part in the annual BSP Go Green Clean-Up Day on Friday.
In Port Moresby, 60 schools were selected to take on the clean-up challenge, with teachers and students working together.
The day is aimed at promoting the Go Green message of ‘recycle, reuse, respect’, in which it gathers students for a clean-up activity in and around schools and communities.
This year saw a record participation of close to 50,000 students in 260 schools in PNG and over 60 schools in BSP’s offshore branches in Fiji, Solomon Islands, Cook Islands, Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu.
“BSP’s message is simple,” said BSP’s Go Green clean-up coordinator Amelia Minnopu.
“Recycle items like plastics, bottles and paper.
“Items that can be used for another purpose should be fully utilised.
“The Go Green Clean-Up educates youngsters to have respect for the environment.
“Do not litter and always keep your community clean.
We thank all participating schools, students and respective school administrations for your support in promoting BSP’s Go Green Message of ‘recycle, reuse and respect’.
