STUDENTS, teachers and staff of Bonong Lutheran Primary School in the North-Waghi electorate, Jiwaka, now have access to clean drinking water – thanks to MP Dr Fabian Pok.

The school did not have a proper water supply for students and staff. They were forced to use water from nearby creeks.

Pok allocated K100,000 for the school’s water supply.

Nol Wal company will work on the water supply. Representative Lucas Kepa turned on the tap at the school ground.

Parents and staff witnessed children enjoying the clean drinking water.

Head teacher Robert Gene said the school had planned to buy seven water tanks for K49,000.

Gene said they had one water tank which staff and students used when it rained.

“This is a big relief for the students and staff of this school because water has been a real problem since the school was established in 1992. We have been walking for long distances to collect water.”

School board chairman Nelson Akis urged students, staff and the surrounding community to take ownership of the water supply.

“We are privileged to have this water supply because many are still struggling to have access to drinking water,” Akis said.

He said more than 300 students and the surrounding Bonong community would benefit from it.
