SPEAKER Job Pomat says the inaugural Speaker’s Investment Summit and Trade Expo will be held in August at Parliament House and hosted by the PNG Business Council.
Pomat said it was an opportunity for MPs to talk to the private sector on what sort of business plans they had for their districts.
“We noted from the small one last year that there was so much interest from our elected members of Parliament,” he said.
“For this year, I would like to see that it becomes more successful.
“We can work more with the private sector and people in our respective electorates.”
Council president Robert Nilkare agreed that it would be an important event for MPs.
“Last August, we had the induction programme for the members of parliament at Parliament House and I think based on the success of that, we felt that we should do another one this year,” Nilkare said.
“We are hoping that every year, we will have the investment summit here.”
The summit will be held on Aug 26, 27 and 28 when Parliament is in session.
“It is an important avenue for parliamentarians most of whom spend most of their time out in the electorates and don’t have the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the big companies and to understand how their businesses operate and how they contribute to PNG,” Nilkare said.
