Super levy tax tabled, cannot be stopped: PM

PRIME Minister James Marape says the “dominant player” bill, a super levy or tax on Bank South Pacific Financial Group Ltd (BSP) and Digicel has been tabled and the process cannot be stopped.
Marape told The National that however, the commercial bank and telecommunications company could be assured that they would not be subjected to the levy for the first six months of next year.
He said the K190 million and K90 million on BSP and Digicel respectively was only two per cent of the revenue and a decision on it will be realised after General Election 2022 or the next Government, whichever came first the mid-year economic outlook (Myefo) and review.
BSP chief executive officer Robin Fleming also told The National that “we are yet to be provided with any official advice as to whether the act has been passed and what defer means”. “We are just waiting to see what defer means.”
Marape said the budget had been passed for revenue and expenditure.
