A 24-YEAR-OLD murder suspect was jailed two months for escaping from police custody at the Waigani Committal Court on May 10.
Russell Tom Uhara, from Gulf’s Kikori, was recaptured by Kikori police on Dec 16 after complaints he used a bush knife to threaten his community.
He was later picked up by Boroko police and taken to the National Capital District on Christmas Day.
Uhara escaped whilst in the custody of policewoman Cecilia Dange when he was brought to court for hearing.
He told Boroko district court magistrate Rosie Johnson that he walked out of the lock-up, boarded a bus near Vision City and returned to his village.
Johnson said: “Whether you walked or flew out of the lock-up is not the point.
“You should have stayed no matter what because your files were already ready to be served on you at that time.”
He will serve two months in jail while waiting for his murder case.
Uhara was charged with slashing Jack Morobai to death with a bush knife in the Koki fish market on June 25.
