PUBLIC places like bus stops in the city are no longer safe for girls, school children and women, Boroko District Court Magistrate Rosie Johnson says .
“They are not able to move around freely without falling prey to thieves and robbers,” she added.
Johnson made the remarks before jailing Philip Albert, 26, from Hela’s Tari, six months for robbing Rachael Matialu at Gordon 9-Mile bus stop on Dec 26.
Police prosecutor Senior Sgt Elias Yohang said Albert and his accomplices confronted Matialu and a colleague who had gone shopping and relieved her of a wallet containing a BSP card, a Grade 12 transfer card and K350.
Senior Sgt Yohang said Albert held his victims by the shoulders while his accomplices removed the wallet from her pockets and fled.
Albert was caught by the public who witnessed the robbery.
Johnson said: “You were caught but your friends are at large..
“Whether you got the money or not, you were part of the criminal act.
“You are all equally responsible.”
