ONE suspect was shot and four others were arrested by Lae police after an armed holdup at a store in Lae on March 30, police say.
Northern Assist Comm of Police (ACP) Peter Guinness said the holdup was at Namo Bada Trading on Josey Street where armed men took K1,000 cash, a laptop, flex cards, mobile phones, cigarettes and other items totalling K15,000.
He said the criminals used a hired vehicle and when trying to get away, the vehicle broke down and the suspects fled on foot to the Papuan Compound and 1-Mile area.
ACP Guinness said the armed men went into the shop like any other customer with masks on after parking at the car park.
When inside, they held up the supervisor and forced him into the monitoring office.
The security guards and the employees were also forced to lie on the floor while the criminals looted the shop.
“Police, when responding to the robbery, tracked the suspects on foot till they caught up with them and shot one while the others escaped into the swampy area at the back of 1-Mile,” ACP Guinness said.
