Suspects arrested for unlawfully wounding man

POLICE in Manus have arrested two suspects for unlawfully wounding a man from Erave in Southern Highlands.
Provincial police commander, Chief Insp, David Yapu said the incident occurred recently at Cancer Hill in the Ward 6 area in Lorengau town.
The two suspects, Kapin James, 27, of Waratalai in Penabu Nalisopat LLG and Manuel Popres, 18, of Tingou Masih, Lelemadi Buichipeu LLG in Lorengau were charged with unlawful wounding of the victim, Kale Boso.
Yapu said the suspects were drunk and approached the victim in his house and hit him with a piece of timber and a splinter penetrated his head.
He was rushed to Lorengau General Hospital and the timber was removed.
The victim would have died had the timber penetrated into his skull, Yapu said.
Both suspects are in custody and will appear in court on Aug 29.
Popres was further charged for armed robbery and escape from lawful custody.
Meanwhile, another suspect, Godfrey Mahalou, 21, of Tambulul village in Rambutso Island, Rapotona LLG was charged with sexual penetration of a minor.
The incident occurred on Aug 6 at Rambutso Island.
Yapu again appealed to the community to work together with police to maintain law and order in the province and to make the community free and safe to live in.
Yapu also said the Police, PNG Defence Force and Correctional Services would participate in the Manus Provincial Day commemorations today.
They will lead the march from the provincial government car park to the main Lorengau town market where all activities will be staged.
