Systems too weak

Letters

YESTERDAY’S front page report about the Immigration and Citizenship Authority’s (ICA) concern over non-compliance of immigration laws by foreigners tells us how weak our government systems are.
Congratulations to Chief Immigration Officer Stanis Hulahau and his team for job well done in capturing the foreigners running the suspected brothel in the guise of running a hotel.
The team eventually found out that the foreigners’ visas have all expired and they’ve been in the country illegally.
While congratulating ICA for the good job, I want to point out that this matter goes to show that our system is very weak as such the foreigners are taking advantage it.
This is just the tip of the iceberg.
Many of them are living and operating businesses illegally throughout the country and it’s a challenge for the Government to consider.
The Government should do everything to crack down on such activities.
Do it now because foreigners will continue to flood our country and take advantage of our systems if nothing is done.
Foreigners have already done that.
Some ICA staff may have compromised their job and getting money under the table to allow these foreigners to enter our country and operate illegally.
Do a thorough check of ICA officers before blaming foreigners overstaying their visas and illegally operating in the country.
Its about time the ICA screens its officers and ensure they do their jobs diligently without accepting bribes and engage in other corrupt practices.
If this is happening in the capital of PNG, then other small centres are no exception.
