Take nurses’ concern seriously, official says

NURSES around the country are stressed from dealing with the third wave of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) and their concerns should be taken seriously by authorities, an official says.
Papua New Guinea Nurses Association (PNGNA) treasurer Damaris Penias said some nurses were also getting infected by the Covid-19 Delta strain.
“It has really put the nursing workforce (under pressure),” she said.
“Nurses are the ones attending to the patients.
“They get infected with the Covid-19 and have to take sick leave for home isolation.
“When that happens, the limited number of nurses available have to juggle duties and get stressed.
“They work even on weekends or on their days-off. Nurses are stressed and burnt out.”
Penias, a nurse at the Port Moresby General Hospital, said that nurses were getting sick and it was important that they received the outstanding awards to help them and their family during this challenging time.
She said there were only around two pay-days before the year ended which meant they might not receive the outstanding awards.
But it should be explained to them.
Nurses from around the country have joined the sit-in protests which started on Monday.
