NAC starts special Xmas operation

THE National Airports Corporation (NAC) has started its special operation to manage security and the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic safety measures during the Christmas period.
Acting managing director Rex Kiponge said the operation, which started yesterday, included collaboration with the police.
“Three security check-points have been set up at key locations at Jackson Airport to carry out appropriate security checks on vehicles and persons entering the airport area,” he said in a statement.
“The additional security checks will support us in identifying illicit drugs, dangerous weapons, including firearms, as well as drunk and disorderly persons and to deal with them accordingly outside the terminal facilities, thereby, allowing seamless movement within the terminal area.”
Kiponge said the idea was to identify any risk and address them outside the terminal.
“As we move into Christmas peak period, we need to be vigilant and provide a more secure environment for all airport users, including the travelling public,” he said.
Kiponge said the special operation would also be rolled out in other “class A” regional airports such as Mt Hagen, Goroka, Nadzab, Madang and Tokua.
