SITUM Primary School students in Morobe can now enjoy safe hand-washing following the construction of water, sanitation and hygiene (Wash) facilities in the school.
The new washing stations and water tanks were installed by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (Adra) PNG through the PNG-Australia partnership to support churches and local communities working together.
The partnership, through church partnership programme, is to work together in minimising the Coronavirus (Covid-19) transmission, ensuring safer school operations in accordance with the “Niupela Pasin” protocols.
In addition, the hand-washing facilities and the Covid-19 awareness sessions were also held for the staff and students to be better informed about the pandemic and measures to bear in mind to stay safe.
School principal John Gemotang said it was vital that students and staff were reminded of the Covid-19 safe practices, especially with the increase of infected cases.
“Practising safe hygiene is vital as it teaches students that maintaining simple, yet effective hygiene and social-distancing practices, are a way to protect each other and their right to a quality education while at school,” Gemotang said.
There are 80 institutions, including 50 schools across the country which have received Wash facilities as the churches promote the Covid-19 safety measures to protect communities from the devastating impacts of the pandemic.
