THE Talasea District Development Authority recently presented K500,000 as gold sponsorship to the Kimbe Cutters for their participation in this year’s Digicel ExxonMobil Cup.
The support supplements West New Britain (WNB) government as the major sponsor of the Kimbe-based team.
“We are proud of Kimbe Cutters which continues to carry the emblem of WNB in the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup competition since inception in 2019,” the club said in a statement.
“This is our sixth year in the competition and we want to remain focused and be competitive.
“With the recent appointment of Steven Raphael as the new chairman of the board, assuming the role from former chairman Dominic Kaumu, the composition of the board gives more confidence to the future of the franchise.”
The 2024 Kimbe Cutters squad comprises of young talents selected from the off season trials and the recently completed WNB Unity 9s tournament.
“With few experienced seasoned campaigners, we are confident in the season ahead. Kimbe Cutters remain the pathway to expose natural local talents at the national level in rugby league,” the club said.
“Discipline and respect for the rule of law at all levels in the community remains the theme for this year. All the players will continue to drive this message and advocate for a united and safe WNB as they wear the Kimbe Cutters jumper in 2024. No drugs, no alcohol and no violence against women. We want to ensure our youths must have respect for everyone in all levels in the community.
