HAVING the district procurement committee in place now will enable the fast tracking of projects for implementation and service delivery in the electorate, an MP says.
Talasea MP Freddy Kumai said this following the swearing-in ceremony of the Talasea and Kandrian-Gloucester district procurement committees of the National Procurement Commission (NPC) yesterday.
Kumai said the ceremony was witnessed by himself and Kandrian-Gloucester MP and Opposition Leader Joseph Lelang.
“The establishment of the DPC allows for the district to procure and award contracts at the district level,” he said.
“This significantly reduces the waiting time from the provincial procurement committee.
“It is an important decision by the Talasea district development authority board to create the Talasea district procurement committee.
“This will reduce the turnaround time for projects execution and implementation.
“The district procurement committee were sworn in by the NPC legal counsel.”
They were challenged to be honest, transparent and accountable to the constitutional office they occupied.
Kumai said for the Talasea district the five DPC members were the district development authority chief executive officer Melchior Babo, district finance manager Hamison Pidik, justice-law and order representative John Rova, community representative Robin Esiko and women’s representative Maria Loi.
