Task force shame

Letters

JUST by having a glance at our joint security task force you will see a lot of differences to other international forces who came to provide additional security for Apec.
Some of our people didn’t even have the respect or honour to stand straight and show respect.
They were smoking, chewing betel nut, moving around, telling stories, joking, asking the crowd for lime while the convoy taking our friends were driving past.
Members of international forces were on alert and in respect of their leaders.
In addition to that, many of our troops had pot bellies, unhealthy, unfit while other international forces were slim, healthy and fit and ready for combat.
Members of our forces were chewing and smoking away like nobody’s business, right in front of the people they were supposed to be protecting.
Are they combat ready? Are they fit for to face an invasion? Are they capable to provide security to Papua New Guinea?
I don’t think so.
They showed to the world that they had a no-care altitude and that they didn’t care about their nation.
The Government should consider getting rid of all the pot bellies and unfit members of the disciplined forces.
National security is no laughing matter.
PNG will be crying to its allies for equipment support sooner or later and that will be shameful for a country that calls itself resource-rich.
