Taureka’s removal a blow to govt credibility

Letters

THE recent announcement by Prime Minister James Marape that the Kumul Consolidated Holdings Isikeli Taureka managing director bad been removed is another example of how bad this Government really is.
Taureka is a credentialed, competent and credible business leader with proven performance in many roles before this one.
However, under this Government he has been moved on because of underperformance.
A similar move took place a year ago when the former KCH chairman, Peter Aitsi, another credible PNG business executive at the time, was replaced.
Since when has this government managed performance?
There is no half intelligent Papua New Guinean who can’t see this as nothing more than politics, and bad politics at that.
If performance is the measure, we would have half the ministers moving on.
The health minister is overseeing the biggest mess in the country with people dying, an ineffective department and no idea where all the Coronavirus (Covid-19) funds have gone.
The minister who oversees PNG Power keeps his role even when our people are still sitting in the dark and the rot within the organisation continues to grow.
The treasurer still holds his job despite the economy declining to its worst state ever, borrowings that will take generations to repay if we ever can and has little idea on how to fix it.
The former Apec minister buys cars worth millions and tells the public they’re being sold but they’re sitting idle in a shed somewhere in Port Moresby.
And what about the ministers who continue to be called in front of the courts for their questionable dealings or conduct?
Some of these hold the most senior of roles in this PM’s cabinet.
Where are these so-called expectations of performance and accountability for all?
The PM came to power with a promise to fix PNG but he has let it decline further to a point where we move closer to being labelled a “failed state”.
PNG has to wake up, stop complaining about our situation and start to take steps to stop this from happening.
Demand answers, demand change, stand up and make a change.
Our current group of leaders can’t do it.
Let’s find those who can!

Enough of the rot
