TREASURER Sam Basil has warned all tax agents and accountants working as authorised agents to be careful of their conduct as they are liable for prosecution.
Basil’s warning follows the announcement by Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) of K18 billion worth of underreported taxes by 127 companies in 2016.
“I’d like to make those people responsible and I will go down as far as the Certified Public Account (CPA) Association,” he said.
“We will make those tax agents responsible by allowing them under the fit and proper person’s evaluation of how they conduct themselves in underreporting cases.
“We will make it known to the big companies that if these things are happening, those tax agents are liable for prosecution.”
