Teach leadership values in schools: Minister

LEADERSHIP values should be taught at all levels of education for a change in leadership for the future generation, Education Minister Jimmy Uguro says.
Uguro said this while discussing leadership values with transformation leadership author Dr John Maxwell yesterday.
“The values and leadership are important to pass on to our next generation through the education system, so that our people can learn to respect and work with each other to help promote change in our community,” he said.
Uguro said Prime Minister James Marape had made the pledged to ensure that every child was educated to Grade12 level by 2027.
He said provinces and districts must take the lead in providing resources, facilities and make sure that quality was delivered to the students.
He said leadership was important and should be imparted to the children at the early stage which would become part of them growing up.
“So they could manage the country’s resources and economics in years to come,” he said.
“To ensure we start education in early childhood and give a solid 13 years from prep education to Grade 12 at Government cost by 2027, I call on each province and district to eliminate Grade Eight dropout in 2025 and phase out dropout in Grade 10 in 2027. “We aim for no dropouts in our country by 2027.”
Uguro said all this would be possible by local MPs taking ownership in their areas of responsibility.
He said this could be done by building infrastructures, classrooms to increase access and reduce class size.
Uguro said that Flexible Open and Distance Education (Fode) should be introduced in every high school and vocational training centre as well.
