BURGLARS broke into the Vunabosco Agro-Technical Secondary School in East New Britain on Monday and a school official is upset that the police has yet to act.
“The burglary was reported at 8am but till today (yesterday) the police had yet to come to the school to investigate,” the school’s head of department and in-service coordinator Paliaima Tanda said.
He said the thieves were believed to have broken into the school between 1am and 4am, carting away two desktop computers and K4,305.
“This is not the first time the school has been hit by burglars,” Tanda said.
“Similar thefts were reported in 2017, 2018, and term one of this year.
“The 2017 burglary was a major one. All the offices, staff room and classrooms were ransacked.
“We appeal to nearby communities to respect and help the school and stop the burglaries.
“This school does not only cater to students in East New Britain.
“We have students from New Guinea Islands, Momase, Highlands and Southern regions.”
Kokopo police have confirmed receiving a report of the burglary “but we have yet to conduct investigations in the school”.
“We are trying our best to track down the suspects but there is no lead or information to help us investigate. We will continue to look for the burglar or burglars,” a police officer said.
The school administration has also written to the provincial education office seeking assistance on how to resolve the constant disruptions.
The school is organising a meeting today with senior education officers, communities and other stakeholders.
