Teacher’s 3pc allowance confusing

Letters

THE three per cent salary allowances from 2017 to 2019 will continue to remain confusing despite a recent clarification in the media.
There is no set indicator, to show the cut off mark which would distinguish a year’s 3 per cent hike from the previous year to the next.
It seems that all the allowances or hikes have been purposefully squeezed up to cover the discrepancies contained within on how it was executed.
There are no explanation nor better mechanisms to rectify the ongoing issues concerning teachers’ salaries in the country.
Further delays in paying teachers is unacceptable and action must be taken to fix this outstanding problem.
Consider the facts below for honesty’s sake:
lMany teachers are not paid on the correct salary range stipulated in so called salary scales. Nor various agreements agreed on;
lmany teachers are still working without getting their salaries. Including those who filled resumption forms. Teachers going off payroll in any one time of the year is bizarre and new graduates are still not on payroll; and,
lMany teachers are still underpaid and not paid correctly on the correct salary range in comparison to the years they’ve taught.
Elementary teachers are the worst affected.
Their salary problems and grievances are not addressed.
Every single elementary teacher’s files from 1999 to date should be thoroughly checked and rectified.
Elementary education is the beginning of knowledge in the education system and we don’t want to mess around with that.
And please don’t expect “cola” monies from elementary school teachers.
It’s good to go public in the media to disseminate information but it should be done not as an excuse to cover up.
A thorough investigation into teacher’s salaries will reveal flaws which had been covered up or ignored for decades.
If revealed to be correct, someone should be held accountable for the suffering teachers have gone through.
If teachers are the highest tax payers, where is the logic in all the suffering they are going through.
