ON behalf of teachers in Papua New Guinea, I call on the government to give us a 52% pay rise too.
It is imperative to look after the welfare of our teachers.
We work in the remotest and rugged parts of the country where no other civil servants want to go.
Let us be realistic.
The current economic condition is not conducive for civil servants like teachers who earn K400 a fortnight.
The inflation is very high these days and how can any sensible government allow its teachers to suffer?
We are disgusted with the government’s decision to give MPs and departmental heads a 52% pay rise.
They are already well paid.
There is no logic in requesting for more money.
What a shame.
