THE family and in-laws of a senior teacher in Wewak, East Sepik, do not want to accommodate the teacher anymore for fear of being attacked again by a disgruntled former student of the teacher.
The teacher’s family was attacked over New Year allegedly by the former student and his relatives as revenge for reporting the student turning up to school under the influence of alcohol earlier in the year.
The student was expelled.
The teacher and the student had lived next door to each other, according to the school head teacher
The head teacher told The National that the teacher was very upset as he was not with his family at the time of the attack.
“His brother, whose right arm had been slashed by the former student and his relatives, needed to have an operation which had cost the teacher so much money,” the head teacher said.
“He needed help so the school administration provided some financial assistance.”
The matter has been reported to police in Wewak.
The head teacher said police commander Supt Albert Beli had been made aware of the incident.
He said the teacher’s family and his in-laws no longer wanted to accommodate him after the attack.
“The teacher has moved back to his house within the school premises and would spend the rest of the holidays there as his relatives did not want any more attacks on them.”
