Teachers in East Sepik not allowed to transfer

TEACHERS in East Sepik are not allowed to be transferred out of a school after the start of the academic year, according to acting education manager Richard Kombo.
Kombo said teachers should remain in their schools until the end of the academic year.
He said everyone should stay “unless the transfer is extremely needed and justified”.
He said teachers who left prematurely created problems in the school operations and the education of students.
Some teachers leave because of security reasons or the poor state of their accommodation or sometimes the remoteness of the location of the school.
Kombo said the board of management and principal should take up any problems early with the administration so that they could be resolved early.
“Do not wait until a problem leads to another and in the end it gets out of hand,” he said.
“That is not good. When we address the problem quickly, the cost will be minimum and the damage minimised to a manageable level.”
He also said the government should allow the schools to charge parents support fees to fund operations when the tuition fee free (TFF) funding was late.
He said TFF funds should be given systematically to schools so that those far from the main centres were given enough to meet the cost of transportation and other needs.
He said that would also ease funding shortages affecting schools.
