Teachers should be good examples

Letters

THE issue of teacher’s houses is the same with many public servants and employees in the private sector.
Teachers should understand that housing is not a condition of their employment, especially in the National Capital District.
Times have changed from the era where accommodation was provided for a few privileged people.
Many, after retirement, are still occupying houses whether legally or illegally, which is another problem that needs to be sorted out to make space available for the affected staff.
It is not proper for teachers to sleep in classrooms, office spaces and ablution blocks.
Teaching is a noble profession and teachers should be good examples to students and the communities they serve in.
Teachers impart knowledge for the future of their students and for them to struggle in the eyes of their pupils is not a good reflection.
When staff and their families are living in deplorable conditions in school premises, it gives a wrong impression to their students.
Teachers should not blame their school or the Education Department for their dilemma.
They should instead take responsibility to improve their situation, which starts with their personal development.
Success in life does not come easily on a golden plate.
Someone has to pay the price to follow certain principles of success in order to reap the benefits.
The road to success is determined by the condition of the mind which affects the way one thinks, feels and react to life’s circumstances.
Teacher’s absenteeism, improper dressing, unhealthy habits and negative lifestyle will not help to resolve their problems.
The same applies to employees in the Government and the private sector.
While we sympathise with the affected teachers, they should think properly as professional people to do the right things that will help change their temporary circumstances and progress towards a better future.
