SUNDAY’S match up of the Isuzu Cup saw a low scoring affair with Team Red (2/75) grabbing an easy eight-wicket win over Yellow (73 all out) on Sunday at Amini Park in Port Moresby.
Yellow were first to bat and were quickly dismantled by Red bowlers in the innings with Charles Amini Jr and Alei Nao grabbing three wickets each with Yellow all out for 73 runs in the 25th over.
Amini Jr and Nao were joined by teammates Daure Lohia and Damien Ravu who each bagged two wickets to give Yellow their second loss of the weekend.
Yellow’s highest score came from opener Kipling Doriga, who managed 23 runs, with Hoge Henao (11) and Mavara Hekure (9) following after.
Reds chase saw opening batsmen Dogodo Bau end the match quickly after scoring an unbeaten 32 alongside Tony Ura (21) and Hila Vare (12) to reach their target in the 15th over.
Meanwhile, the Black’s 82-run win on Saturday puts them as front-runners for the Cup after their solid performance against Yellow.
Tournament director Rodney Maha said Black were beginning to take a strangle hold on the competition.
“They are well coached by Podi Vai and of course have some individuals like Assad Vala, Lega Siaka, Nosaina Pokana and young Boge Arua playing well,” he said.
“Yellow had some standouts with Kipling Doriga and Norman Vanua while the Reds have CJ Amini and Tony Ura who have been doing well.”
