A TEAM from the audit section in the National Department of Health will visit the three community colleges in the country early next month.

The acting adviser for community health workers (CHW) in East Sepik, Abel Sumbuk, said the team comprised five officers from health and one from the education department, including the provincial health adviser.

He said the team would visit community colleges at Vunamami in East New Britain, Karkar in Madang and St Andrew’s community college in East Sepik.

The purpose was to oversee the standard of training provided by the institutions for community health workers.

“CHW training course is included in the community education curriculum apart from ongoing courses such as carpentry, mechanical, tourism and hospitality and basic accounting,”  Sumbuk said.

He said after the audit they would determine whether to graduate the final year CHW training students or they should continue for other six months.

“I want to encourage all parents to send their children to community colleges to take up the CHW training,” Sumbuk said.
