Teams fight for berths in Digicel Cup playoffs

Sports

COMPETITION for the Digicel Cup fifth and sixth spots is wide open with seven teams vying for the two remaining berths in the playoffs this season.
With two matches remaining, competition leaders Lae Snax Tigers (27 points), Agmark Rabaul Gurias (24), JPG Waghi Tumbe (24) and the Bintangor Goroka Lahanis (21) have ensured their spots in the top-six playoffs.
The equation is simple for the Wamp Nga Hagen Eagles (16) and EPG Enga Mioks (15) — win their remaining games.
But that is easier said than done, with the Mioks facing the Gurias and Lahanis, and the Eagles taking on the Agmark-backed side and the Port Moresby Vipers (11) in the final two rounds.
Any slip-up and the Kroton Hela Wigmen (13), PRK Gulf Isou (13), Mendi Muruks (11), Central Dabaris (11) and Vipers are sure to pounce.
The Wigmen are up against the Muruks at the National Football Stadium.
Meanwhile, franchises have raised concerns over the standard and quality of refereeing in the crucial rounds.
Fixtures: Isou v Tigers, Wigmen v Muruks, Vipers v Cutters, Eagles v Gurias, Mioks v Lahanis, Tumbe v Dabaris.
