Teamwork vital for Digicel Cup

Sports

Greetings to our rugby league family and welcome to our 23rd edition of Fulltime Reserve, a weekly column to discuss all matters rugby league in our favourite newspaper The National.
The Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) this week received conditional approval from the national pandemic controller for the return of spectators to Digicel Cup matches at Sir John Guise Stadium.
The approval is subject to strict compliance with the controller’s crowd-limit guidelines and PNGRFL’s Banis Protocols.
The approval is timely as the Digicel Cup enters the final round of matches before the finals next weekend.
The approval also ensures that all finals matches will be played at the stadium in Port Moresby.
PNGRFL and the PNG National Rugby League Competition (PNGNRLC) are pleased with the successful delivery of this year’s Digicel Cup thus far despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The memorable performances by players and teams and the exciting quality of football has vindicated the collective decision and commitment by all to ensure the revised season was delivered.
This would not have been possible without the support and commitment of all our stakeholders, partners, staff, technical officials and volunteers across PNG.
PNGRFL and the PNGNRLC are immensely grateful for your partnership and commitment.
PNGRFL acknowledges the support of our great partners at:

  • Digicel (PNG) Ltd as naming-rights partner;
  • SP Brewery for their continued commitment and platinum partner;
  • Motor Vehicles Insurance Ltd for our referees and match officials across the game in PNG; and,
  • The PNG Sports Foundation and the pandemic controller.

PNGRFL further acknowledges our other partners at Air Niugini, PNG Air, Boroko Motors, Coral Sea Hotels, Lae International Hotel, Rapopo Plantation Resort, Sanctuary Hotel, Airways Hotel, Pacific Uniforms, Black Swan, Kimbe Bay Resort, Kimininga Hotel and the NCDC for their support this year.
PNGRFL also acknowledges the commitment and sacrifices made by the 12 Digicel Cup franchises and their partners, players, officials and supporters to ensure the delivery of this season.
PNGRFL appreciates Adrian Chow and Stanley Hondina and the entire board, staff and officials of the PNGNRLC for working tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver a great season.
We wish the teams all the best for the rest of the season as we look forward to the conclusion of the season and the start of exciting finals footy next week.
